Gold in Haiti

I know there must be gold in Haiti
flowers in June
get well soon
and I know there must be newborn babies
seasons in bloom
and green trees there too

But all and all, and all the aftermath
when the dust settles
the Earth is flat
unspoken, speaking on a young boys face
it's no wonder the world questions faith

Well I know there must be celebrating
somewhere in the mud
the muck and mire, streets are afloat
with the hope that maybe we'll inspire
why dwell on negative
pages of literature fueled the fire

A mother screams and digs rampant through the rubble
watched this land go to hell, let our streets softly crumble
Oh Haiti, Haiti, Haiti finances we've all lost
but what is currency worth anyway when this dirt is all we've got?

I know there must be gold in Haiti
